BROOKLYN MELLOWS by Devadas

$19.99

"Brooklyn Mellows" is the fifth studio album from innovative kirtan artist and producer, Devadas. The record is inspired by "Vridndavan Mellows," a little known recording from Aindra Prabhu that blends live kirtan recordings with the ambient sounds of India. Devadas follows suit with "Brooklyn Mellows", weaving together his chants with the sonic sphere of Brooklyn, NY. Recording the sounds of the Brooklyn subway, Coney Island's iconic boardwalk, and neighborhood street sounds, Devadas creates a playful landscape for his chants to live within. The result is an extraordinary fit between rich traditional Indian melodies (Maha Mantra, Krishna Govinda, Nanda Nandana Hari) and the laughter and play of modern day Brooklyn. The double-disc CD features collaborations with fellow kirtan artists Adam Keller, Ambika Cooper, Anjula Prasad, as well as Devadas' own daughter, Uma Rao-Labrecque.
